A ‘must do’ experience
One of the must do experiences while in Rotorua is a trout fishing charter or a cruise on one of our famous lakes. From Lake Tarawera and famous Te Rata bay and it’s hot water springs and beaches, Lake Rotorua with the legend of Hinemoa and Tutanekai and Lake Rotoiti with its reputation for producing good sized trout. Within 15 to 30 minutes from Rotorua city you can be on our boat ‘Hamills Killer’, named after the famous fishing fly developed for the Rotorua lakes and be in with a chance to catch one of the regions famous and fabulous trout.
The methods we use are jigging, soft baits, trolling, harling with a fly rod and fly fishing, these all depend on the time of year and where the fish are in the water column. Fitted with the latest Hummingbird electronics and the new MinnKota Instict Quest electric trolling engine you are asured of increasing the odds when fishing for our trout.
Our charters are private exclusive charters for you or your group and offer you a choice of 3 and 4 hour options depending on the lake you wish to fish. Refer to our rate page . ‘Hamills Killer’ is surveyed to MaritimeNZ standards for up to 6 guests and depending on the time of the year and what fishing technique, 4 to 5 people can be fishing at one time.
Lake Tarawera and Lake Rotoiti have a season for boat fishing from the 1st October to the 30 June. (There are fly fishing and spin fishing options from the shoreline from the 1st July to 30 September). On Lake Tarawera, if time permits, you can even sample your catch cooked in the hot springs on the lake edge, a bit like natures Sous Vide machine…
Please contact us for a great time in our very special part of New Zealand. Tea, coffee and light refreshments are included on all charters.
Due to an injury I am not taking fly fishing bookings. If I can help with setting up a guided trip then please use the contact us button. Thank you for your understanding.
